First off, I suck at taking Before Pictures. When I walk through a design project site, I take measurements and snap a photo of something I may want to remember, but that’s about it. Well, that and Instagram Stories. I Insta Story the majority of site walk throughs, and even give some progress updates in real time. So that counts, right?!
This spring, I had the absolute pleasure of working with a couple as they renovated a beautiful century home. This is a sneak peek at the (almost) finished project.
Because the homeowner had plenty of experience working on homes, and making them beautiful, my role was quite simple – blend the classic architecture with their young vibe and mid-century modern style, to create a space that feels like them. Like all design projects, learning what the homeowner wants, and steering them in that direction as the various decisions are made, helps ensure that the final product is what they want.
The contractor on this job was my incredibly skilled Father-In-Law, owner of Les Anderson Construction Inc. Being in business for over 30 years, he knows his stuff about renovations. We knocked down a couple of walls and added a structural beam on the main floor, relocated some duct work (aka installed forced heating and air to replace the previously radiant heat system), added some ceiling lighting, installed new windows and a new fireplace, and created a master ensuite. The entire home has gorgeous original hardwoods! So, naturally, those were refinished and brought back to life.
I’m not gonna lie. I am so excited to show you this home, that actually, I’m jumping the gun a little here. It’s not 100% completed yet, as far as the decor and finishing touches go. Annnnd, I actually haven’t had the chance to get inside now that the owners have moved in, to take some beautiful pictures of each space that we redid. But I will! I promise!
Oh and you see that bookcase above? It’s hiding the main run for the forced air system that was installed. Dual sided for plenty of storage, and panelled on the side to match the rest of the details for that age of home… the homeowner envisioned this, and boy, was he bang on!
Pics of the full reveal will come, including the gorgeous kitchen, complete with two new skylights, and the master attic hideaway with a delightful ensuite bathroom. This home is not only beautiful, but is homy, welcoming and will be a wonderful retreat for this family of 6 for years to come!
