Contemporary Condo With Rustic Flair

This is by far the biggest-scale residential design project I’ve ever worked on. What started as an empty concrete shell, was transformed into a stunning condo. Red brick on the fireplace and barnboard accent walls contributed to a comfortable and casual, rustic feel. While more traditional elements like 5 panel shaker doors, glass doorknobs, subway tile and high baseboards set the tone for a timeless, classic look.

In the kitchen, we included some barnboard shelves and industrial metal brackets on either side of the window, instead of adding additional upper cupboards. I love the contrast of old wood shelving with the crystal and chrome light fixture.

The master suite is truly an oasis. In the bathroom, wood looking floor tiles, and the wood shelving and vanity work nicely in contrast with the sleek granite counter top, the counter to ceiling mirror and the sleek free-standing tub. A second barnboard feature wall with a fireplace adds warmth to the bedroom.

The heart of this condo is the living room with incredible city and lake views. Neutral, low back furniture was utilized to help keep the view front and centre. A combination of wood and metal accents carry through the rustic feel.

We finished the space off with lots of texture – woven fabrics, linen pillows, soft throws, greenery and smaller wood elements. Bringing in pops of colour helped to create a welcoming, cozy atmosphere that invites you to come in and enjoy the view.
