The Little Black Dress | Fall Edition

Marisa Anderson Avatar

Having a great-fitting Little Black Dress is one of the foundations of my wardrobe. Since I subscribe to a 40 hanger closet, that means when the weather changes, I simply swap out my summer LBD with one for fall. This thin, knit sweater dress is perfect for the cool autumn weather.

Buying a knit dress can be tricky. Some fabrications have so much stretch that by the time you squeeze yourself into it (however surprisingly comfortably), every lump, bump, undergarment line and back fat roll is clearly visible, leaving nothing to the imagination. Yikes!

However, not enough stretch, and after sitting for an hour, the backside is stretched out, baggy and flapping behind you with every step you take. Awesome.

Neither is what I’m after.

This knit dress is fitted enough to show the beauty of the feminine figure, without being overly clingy. Bonus points for structure – this dress holds it’s shape, even after wearing it all day.

Although trends would dictate shorter hemlines, smaller straps and plunging necklines, there’s something feminine, and dare I say, even beautiful, about dressing discreetly. Pairing a great LBD with simple black pumps and minimal jewelry (I didn’t even wear earrings), gives a classic, effortless look that is always in style.

This Little Black Dress is a winner, and dressed up or down, is sure to be worn plenty of times this season!
