Don’t Give Up!

Statistically, this is the time of year when people walk away from their New Year’s Resolutions for good. Having had a “decent go at it” for a few months, and possibly not achieving the results they had envisioned or hoped for, it can become a season of frustration and defeat.

Well, I happen to think that’s ridiculous.

When did achieving greatness in a short amount of time become the goal? Isn’t there something to be said for progress, even if it’s little by little? In fact, aren’t most incredible accomplishments achieved as a result of progress, over time?

I’m afraid that one of the biggest preys on one’s view of themselves, creeps in when we fail to do what we set out to do. Our failure often results in self-deprecating thoughts, that cast a shadow on how we see ourselves. If we’re not careful, something as simple as failing to reach our intended goal, shapes our view of ourself, and we begin to believe far less about us than what is truth.

“I can’t afford to have a thought in my mind about me that God doesn’t have in His mind about me.” – Bill Johnson

Failing to reach a goal doesn’t make you a failure.

So if you find yourself feeling discouraged because you’ve not accomplished all that you wanted to so far this year, instead of giving up, why not take a moment to re-evaluate, re-group, and come up with a fresh approach to your goal? Tweak the plan, adjust where adjustment is needed, and tackle the goal with a fresh perspective.

After all, the goals you set out to achieve have purpose, relevance and significance. You got this! So don’t settle for less than progress… some is better than none.

You are beautiful. You are valuable. You are loved.
