Pot Filler // The Kitchen Series

I’ve always loved the look of pot fillers. Whether wall mounted or deck mounted (like mine is), a pot filler is not only a practical addition to a kitchen, but it creates a design feature.

What is a pot filler? Exactly what it sounds like – a faucet mounted near the stovetop, for the purpose of filling pots with water on site. In a kitchen like mine, where there’s two steps from the sink to the stove, there’s really no need for one, but in larger kitchens with ample space between the sink and stove, it’s a lovely convenience.

For me, it was more about aesthetics than necessity. However, I love the convenience too! Here’s a picture before the pot filler was installed, and after.

When you think high gloss white cabinets, brushed gold hardware and white marble quartz, it’s easy to envision a chic, glam, ultra feminine space. So I wanted to balance out the glitzy details by adding in some stronger elements, like black details, iron, and stainless steel. This not only toned down the chic, but it amped up the overall casual feel that I wanted to create.

I opted for a light grey grout for the white subway tile backsplash. This choice went a long way in creating a more casual look.

At the island, there’s black iron on the barstools, a black sink, and black iron lights hanging above. To carry the black details along the black wall I designed a black and marble medallion backsplash detail above the stove stop, found a range hood with a black face, and, of course, selected a black pot filler. (Yes, I intentionally chose a finish for my pot filler that was different from my brushed gold faucet at the sink. Gasp!) I like mixing metals when it comes to accessorizing an outfit, so why not carry it over into design?

Creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing space that naturally draws the eye along, is one of the most rewarding components of design.

Two thumbs up for this pot filler! It does a fantastic job on both accounts!
