When you think of a storm, what do you think? Does your mind immediately go to a season in your life, where fierce winds of opposition blew? Or perhaps a time when you were burdened with such deep sorrow, you felt it was all you could do just to simply keep your head above water. Maybe your storm lasted what seemed to be an eternity, or perhaps you are in the midst of a storm right now. Whatever the case, one thing is certain,
We will all face storms in this lifetime.
I am often inspired by stories of those who have been through storms, and looking back, can offer insight and perspective that we don’t have when in the middle of it. Paige Omartian tells one of those stories here.
Another inspiring story is one of the greatest scenes in the Bible of a storm.
Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. Matthew 14:22-24
Did Jesus know the storm was brewing? Could He see the sky grow dark and overcast, and feel the winds pick up? Did He hear the distant rumble of thunder as the storm approached? And yet, where could He be found? Alone. Praying.
Shortly after, He walked on the water to get to the frightened disciples and saved them in the midst of their terrifying storm. Perhaps your Saviour hasn’t yet showed up on the scene of your storm and brought it to an end, but you are not alone.
Jesus… is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Romans 8:34b
The same Jesus that prayed as the storm came upon the disciples is, at this very moment, praying for you. You’re not alone in your storm. Until the storm is over, hold on to the hope that He sees you, He’s praying on your behalf, He loves you and you are not alone.
