GUEST POST Written By Kim Gannon
It was all very strange. Like a dream. But a dream I’d had before. I had just had a stroke and was laying in a hospital bed. As the Paramedics and Doctors did their thing, strangely, the stroke was the furthest thing from my mind. I knew that no matter what happened, I’d still be me.
I believe the Holy Spirit had prepared me for this moment. A year prior, my dad passed away from a stroke. It was pretty scary when we got the news.
As I lay there, now alone, I determined to stay positive and to get the heck out of there!
The next day, the Lord dropped a verse in my heart.
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12 (ESV)
I knew that God had his hand on me, and I was going to live a very long life, and it was for a purpose. I had always struggled with feeling forgotten and over looked, and have been very mindful of that weakness to work through it.
So you can imagine how the next few weeks was overwhelming as flowers, cards, phone calls and visitors poured in. I was shocked when flower deliveries came in for me. I thought someone had made a mistake! 14 flower arrangements, 39 cards or posters, and 66 visitors came in over the next three weeks (not including family!).
Pastors from my church came to visit me. Reports of my entire church family joining together to pray for me… I even had a group of people gather around me and sing over me as my husband played his acoustic guitar… I was blown away! Most of the time I was just speechless and had to lie there and just try to soak all that love in.
I was seriously floored at the love that poured out of people for me. God used a stroke, my family, friends and church to show me how deeply I am loved. This love is so entirely overwhelming and I am grateful for the depths of love that have experienced on this journey.
