The Loudest Voice (please, not the negative one!)

Jacob loved Joseph more than any of his other children because Joseph had been born to him in his old age. So one day Jacob had a special gift made for Joseph—a beautiful robe. But his brothers hated Joseph because their father loved him more than the rest of them. They couldn’t say a kind word to him. Genesis 37:3-4 (NLT)

Imagine growing up in a family where you were looked upon with such contempt that your own siblings couldn’t even say one kind word to you!

Sadly, you may know all too well exactly how that feels. Perhaps you’ve asked yourself, “What did I ever do to deserve this?” “It doesn’t matter what I do, it’s never good enough for them.” “What’s the point of even trying, their minds are made up.” “I wish I had never been born.”

If you have had those thoughts, please read carefully what I’m about to say.

The destiny that is on your life is yours alone. Don’t allow anyone to rob you of your destiny simply because they don’t see it. You can be sure that your destiny is not tied to other’s approval, acceptance or their belief in who you are and what God has called you to do.

Although the disbelieving words others may speak pierce your heart like shards of glass, they do not need to be a voice that directs your steps, nor a voice that determines your future. Just like Joseph had a divine destiny on his life, you do too!

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

Be empowered by the fact that beyond the disapproval and words of doubt, there is a story waiting to be written, a legacy longing to be left and a destiny determined to be discovered as you listen to the life-giving words of Jesus and believe all that He says about you. Just a few glances through Scripture and you’ll quickly see that God’s way of seeing life, of seeing you, is much different than the nay-sayer’s view.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Ephesians 2:19 (NLT)

Let’s determine to allow Christ’s voice to be the loudest one we hear!

Thanks Marisa. I need to remember this.

Wow, I really needed that today. I too often focus on the cutting words of someone else (or myself!) instead of the promises of God. Thank you for sharing.

I think many people do that. If we could truly learn to focus in on the voice of truth, we’d experience a whole lot more peace in life!
