GUEST POST: It’s Raining It’s Pouring

GUEST POST: Written by Jen Sarookanian

4 years ago, a word from the Lord was spoken over me, “Your house will rain provision.” At that time both myself and my husband where working full time and I was pregnant with our 2nd child. I was so excited to hear this, little did I know 3 short days later those words would echo in my ears as my husband told me he lost his full time job due to downsizing.

I would be lying if I said I was excited to see God provide and for this word to happen in our life because to be honest I was terrified! Through the last 4 years it has been stressful, rewarding, challenging and down right stinky at times! God knew that if we had money raining in our home it would have destroyed us. It’s like a house that has been condemned because the foundation is weak. Our foundation was weak, we loved to spend and have the debt to prove it. Not all was consumer debt –  some was us not having an emergency fund for house and car repairs. We got that in order now and we have rebuilt the house so to speak.

In the 4 years, my how our life has transformed!! I felt I needed to be a stay at home Mom, so we made that work. We moved to a less expensive house in the lower city. My Husband got a job shortly after losing his full time one. It has been a part time job but he often gets called to work in different areas outside of his department because he was persistent at getting his name out there for more shifts. There have been times where he only worked his mandatory two shifts per week which was hard financially, then pay periods like the one we recently had, where he is working overtime!

This season has taught us to not live pay cheque to pay cheque but to bank the extra when we have it. It hasn’t rained in the way we expected yet, but God is faithful, always!! We now keep track of all the financial blessings we receive. Small ones like finding $10 in a parking lot, to bigger ones like free accommodations which saved us over $200 while at a conference.

We look forward in anticipation to all God has for us in 2015!

“Look at the birds in the air. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. And you know that you are worth much more then the birds.” Matthew 6:26
