Worship & Intimacy

I truly believe that the heart of God desires intimacy.

Let’s do a little English lesson: Intimacy refers to being in a close personal association and belonging with another. The verb “intimate” means “to state or make known”. It is a familiar and very close connection with another as a result of a bond that is formed through knowledge and experience of the other.

Genuine intimacy in human relationships requires dialogue, transparency, vulnerability, and reciprocity. This is a wonderful example of how we should approach our relationship with the Lord. We need both the knowledge of the Lord and personal experience with the Lord to develop intimacy with Him.

John 4:24 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.

If you want to see your intimacy with the Lord increase, there is one very practical thing you can do immediately. Worship. Worship is one way that intimacy with the Lord is developed. Focusing on God and on His greatness helps connect us with His heart. In turn, God’s Spirit reveals His truth and reality to our hearts.

Make worship a daily part of your life and watch what happens! The more you focus on Christ, and His beauty, the more you’ll fall in love with Him. Spending time with Him positions you to hear from Him more clearly and to become familiar with His voice and heart. There is a passionate level of intimacy with God that’s waiting for you… He’s waiting for you.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Psalm 8:1 (ESV)
